The man, identified as 54-year-old Cory Hansen, has since been located by Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria, who discovered that Cory is not homeless but has a family and medical support.
Family and Medical Background
Cory Hansen lives with his Kenyan wife and two children. His wife revealed that he suffers from bipolar disorder, a condition that worsened after the death of his mother in 2022. Following this, Cory experienced episodes where he would leave home and wander the streets, leading to misunderstandings about his situation.
Why He Collects Plastic Bottles
According to his wife, Cory’s frequent presence near dumpsites and his collection of recyclable materials stem from his commitment to environmental conservation and his desire to support his family. Despite her asking him to stop, he insists on collecting plastic bottles as a way to contribute financially.
During a visit by Mosiria, Cory spoke candidly about his life, saying, "I have a family, and I love my wife and kids. I do mjengo. I am 54 years old but I do good work. I do this because I want to care for my family. I also have a street family; I love the street kids, and I help them when I can."

His wife emphasized her unwavering support, stating that she married Cory before he had money and will stand by him despite his mental health challenges. She highlighted his role as a loving husband and father and dismissed criticism from the public, affirming her commitment of over 17 years.
