Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has officially exited the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and aligned himself with the opposition by joining the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK).

Announcing the move on August 17, 2026, Nyoro stated his intention to collaborate with opposition leaders to unseat President William Ruto in the forthcoming 2027 General Election.

Extensive Consultations with Opposition Figures

Nyoro revealed that his decision followed nearly a year of consultations with prominent opposition figures, including Peter Munya, Martha Karua, James Orengo, Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Dr Fred Matiang’i. He also highlighted his close relationship with Moses Wetang’ula, referring to him as a brother.

Plans and Political Direction

During a detailed address at the Safari Park Hotel, Nyoro outlined reforms he aims to pursue once the Kenya Kwanza government is replaced. He emphasized that his political realignment prioritizes the interests of Kenyans.

"I have been carrying a heavy burden. Whatever political path I choose, the people of Kenya must be my foremost consideration," he said.

Engagements and Outreach

As part of his new political journey, Nyoro announced plans to tour key regions, particularly President Ruto’s traditional strongholds such as Uasin Gishu, Kericho, and Nandi. These visits will serve to explain his departure from the Kenya Kwanza coalition, which he previously supported in 2022.

Nyoro also invited all members of opposition-allied parties to participate in PPK rallies, signaling a united front ahead of the elections.
