Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungw'ah has categorically dismissed any plans to join the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 12, Ichungw'ah described the DCP as a minor political outfit and emphasized that his decisions are driven by principle rather than convenience.
“I can never, ever join that small party. Over my dead body. I make decisions based on conviction, not political convenience,” Ichungw'ah stated.
Criticism of Gachagua's Political Approach
Ichungw'ah accused Gachagua of threatening Kenya’s national unity by promoting ethnic mobilisation and spreading conspiracy theories. He specifically condemned Gachagua's calls for investigations into the deaths of prominent figures, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and former Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla.
He further labeled Gachagua as a danger to national security rather than merely a political rival, highlighting the former deputy president’s alleged use of ethnic-based politics at a time when many Kenyans are moving away from such divisions.

In addition, Ichungw'ah accused Gachagua of orchestrating destabilising actions during the 2024 anti-finance bill protests, where parts of Parliament were set on fire, and implicated him in the 2023 invasion of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Northlands farm. He claimed Gachagua collaborated with sitting MPs to organise the attack, which involved destruction of property and theft of livestock.
Ichungw'ah challenged Gachagua to either disprove these allegations or pursue legal action against him.
