Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed his intention to stand as President William Ruto’s running mate in the upcoming 2027 general elections, dismissing speculation about other contenders for the position.
Speaking at the 11th Annual Meru Dairy Farmers' Field Day held at the Meru ASK Showground in Gitoro, North Imenti Constituency, Kindiki emphasized that the Kenya Kwanza ticket of Ruto and himself will be on the ballot and predicted their victory.
"I want to state it clearly that I will be President William Ruto's running mate in next year's general elections. Those who are salivating for that position should forget it because the Ruto-Kindiki ticket will be on the ballot, and we shall win," said the Deputy President.
Kindiki also called on leaders from the Mt. Kenya region to foster dialogue and maintain unity amid emerging political divisions between Mt. Kenya East and West. He stressed that a united front is critical for the region to effectively advocate for its development interests at the national level.
Earlier, Kindiki officially launched the Meru Maziwa Millers Animal Feeds Factory in Mitunguu, South Imenti Constituency, where he urged local residents to back President Ruto’s re-election bid. He highlighted the government’s development agenda as a key reason to support the incumbent administration.
"I am asking my people from Meru to follow my direction because voting for President William Ruto is also voting for me. Let us support a leader who has demonstrated commitment to transforming the lives of Kenyans through development projects," he said.
The Deputy President also criticized opposition leaders for lacking a strong development record despite having held senior positions in the past. He reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza government remains focused on delivering development programs aimed at improving livelihoods nationwide rather than engaging in divisive politics.
Several leaders from Meru County and the broader Mt. Kenya region attended the events, including Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, Senator Kathuri Murungi, and others. They echoed Kindiki’s call for Mt. Kenya West voters to support the Ruto-Kindiki ticket in the next general election, reciprocating the political support consistently shown by leaders from Mt. Kenya East.
