Benard, a newly graduated Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier from Sare village in Moticho Ward, Kisii, experienced a heartbreaking loss shortly after completing his military training.
Kisii MP Silvanus Osoro shared Benard's story, highlighting how the young soldier came home to celebrate his achievement with his mother, the sole parent who had supported him through hardships, only to lose her two days later.
From Struggle to Support
MP Osoro first met Benard while commissioning a dormitory at Ndonyo High School during his initial term in office. Impressed by Benard’s composure and potential during a presentation, the MP learned of his difficult background—his father had passed away and his mother struggled to pay school fees.
Moved by his situation, Osoro sponsored Benard through high school. After graduation, Benard joined the MP’s team as he awaited the next opportunity, with his mother actively seeking support for his admission into the armed forces.
A Bittersweet Homecoming
- When Benard left for recruit training in Eldoret, his mother accompanied him, shedding tears of joy and praying for his safety.
- MP Osoro arranged logistics and support for the recruits during their training period.
- After successfully completing his training, Benard returned home to celebrate with his mother.
- Tragically, just two days after his pass-out ceremony, his mother passed away, turning a joyous occasion into mourning.
MP Osoro expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss, noting that plans were underway to ensure a dignified funeral for Benard's mother. The young soldier remains inconsolable following the heartbreaking turn of events.
