Adam Ampa Besigye, son of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye, has made an emotional plea to President Yoweri Museveni and UPDF Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, requesting the release of his father who is critically ill and currently admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Mulago Hospital.
Besigye, aged 70, collapsed during a court session in Kampala where he faces treason charges. Following the incident, he was rushed to hospital after losing consciousness. His wife, Winnie Byanyima, confirmed his critical condition and accused authorities of denying him access to his lawyers and personal doctor.
In a heartfelt statement, Ampa clarified that his appeal was motivated by humanitarian concerns rather than politics. He urged the government to consider Besigye’s age, deteriorating health, and the need for proper medical care.
