The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has confirmed the full restoration of the eTIMS Online Portal following a brief period of service disruption affecting taxpayers' ability to generate electronic invoices.

In a statement released on Monday, July 27, 2026, via its official X account, @KRACorporate, KRA reassured stakeholders that the platform is now fully operational.

Alternative Channels for Invoice Generation

During the downtime, KRA reminded taxpayers of alternative methods to generate invoices, including:

  • The eCitizen platform at eCitizen.kra.go.ke
  • USSD code *222#5
  • The eTIMS Lite App, available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store

These options help mitigate disruptions whenever the main portal experiences technical challenges.

Background to the Disruption

The recent outage followed a scheduled 20-hour maintenance exercise from the evening of Wednesday, July 22, to the afternoon of Thursday, July 23, 2026. Despite the planned maintenance, users continued to report access difficulties beyond the scheduled period, including on July 24.

KRA acknowledged these technical issues and apologized for the inconvenience, though it has not disclosed the exact causes of the disruptions.

Role of eTIMS in Tax Compliance

The electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) is a critical platform for businesses in Kenya to generate and manage electronic tax invoices. It applies to companies, partnerships, sole proprietorships, and other business entities, serving as essential documentation for tax compliance and expense claims.

The temporary outage affected daily operations for many businesses relying on the portal. KRA continues to encourage taxpayers to use the alternative channels to ensure continuity in invoice generation.

With the portal now restored, taxpayers can resume normal use of the eTIMS platform while retaining access to backup options in case of future disruptions.
