The Linda Mwananchi movement has announced its itinerary for an upcoming political tour in Bungoma County, signaling intensified campaigning in Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 general election.
Movement spokesperson Caroli Omondi detailed the schedule via X on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The day will start with a 7:00 am Mass at St. Immaculate Cathedral in Kitale, followed by stops in Kiminini at 9:00 am, Kimilili at 11:00 am, and Chwele at noon. The tour will culminate with a large rally at Posta Grounds, Bungoma Town, at 2:00 pm.
This initiative follows recent rallies held in Taita Taveta, as the opposition shifts focus to Western Kenya, a region pivotal in Kenya’s political landscape due to its substantial voter base.
Western Kenya: A Crucial Political Arena
Western Kenya encompasses counties such as Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia, and Vihiga, collectively hosting over 2.2 million registered voters. This makes the region a vital battleground for political coalitions aiming to secure the presidency.
In the 2022 presidential election, Raila Odinga’s Azimio coalition dominated most parts of Western Kenya, securing significant wins in Kakamega, Vihiga, and Busia. However, President William Ruto made notable inroads in Bungoma through alliances with local leaders like National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and the Ford Kenya party.
Political Contest Intensifies Ahead of 2027
The upcoming tour underscores the intensifying competition between the opposition and the government in Western Kenya. While President Ruto has increased development engagements and outreach in the region, the Linda Mwananchi movement aims to consolidate voters opposing the current broad-based government.
The movement positions itself as the authentic opposition voice, strategically organizing rallies in voter-dense areas to maximize impact.
With over two million registered voters and a history of influencing presidential outcomes, Western Kenya is expected to be a fiercely contested region in the lead-up to the 2027 polls. The Bungoma rally is thus a significant event in the broader political struggle for dominance in the area.
