Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has announced that Meru residents have decided to support Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidates in the upcoming 2027 General Election. Speaking in Molo, Nyaki, Imenti, Linturi emphasized the need to restore Meru's "lost glory" by electing leaders aligned with DCP.
On July 27, 2026, Linturi shared on his X account that the community had agreed to back DCP aspirants for all elective positions from the gubernatorial seat down to the Member of County Assembly (MCA) level.
Unity and the "WANTAM" slogan
As DCP's National Organising Secretary, Linturi assured that the party would prioritise Meru's interests. He called on residents to unite behind the party, describing unity as the region's greatest strength.
He also stated that President William Ruto should be voted out, accusing him of failing to serve Meru adequately. The message rallying support around this cause is encapsulated in the slogan "WANTAM."
Accusations of division in Mt Kenya
Linturi recently accused President Ruto of attempting to divide the Mt Kenya region politically through Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku. In a July 18 statement, he urged Imenti residents to resist these divisive tactics and reaffirmed the unity of the Mountain community, which has remained intact since independence.
He warned that CS Ruku was being used by Ruto and predicted that he might be politically discarded, citing himself and other leaders who faced similar fates.
Gubernatorial ambitions
Linturi has declared his intention to run for the Meru governor seat in 2027. He pledged to serve the county with dignity, integrity, and dedication, aiming to elevate Meru among Kenya's leading counties.
His political campaign aligns with DCP's broader efforts to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the general elections.
