Lynda Holt Reflects on Chris Kirubi’s Acquisition of Capital FM
Capital FM founder Lynda Holt reveals why she sold the station to Chris Kirubi and praises his role in growing the brand after the takeover.
Lynda Holt, the original founder of Capital FM Kenya, recently shared insights into the station’s early days and the pivotal decision to sell it to business magnate Chris Kirubi.
How the Sale Came About
In a candid interview on Capital FM’s official YouTube channel, Holt explained that her decision to part ways with the station was driven by a personal crossroads rather than purely financial reasons. She felt she had reached the limits of what she could achieve with Capital FM on her own.
"I was at a point in my life where I felt I had done what I could with Capital FM and it was time for me to move on," Holt said. She recounted that Kirubi, a close friend, approached her with an interest in buying the station. Recognizing his resources and ambition, she agreed it was the right moment to pass the baton.
Kirubi’s Impact on Capital FM
Reflecting on the period after the sale, Holt praised Kirubi’s stewardship of the station. She noted that rather than changing its core identity, Kirubi preserved the spirit of Capital FM while expanding its reach and influence beyond what she believed she could have done alone at the time.
"He really loved Capital FM," she said. "He took it and grew it, and he kept the spirit of what we had built alive, while also taking it to places I probably couldn't have on my own at that time."
The interview provides a rare personal perspective on one of Kenya’s landmark media transactions, highlighting the trust and friendship that underpinned the handover.
