A man believed to be attempting to vandalize solar lighting equipment on a billboard along Lusaka Road near Nyayo Roundabout in Nairobi died after falling approximately 35 metres from the top of the structure.
According to Nairobi police, the man was spotted by members of the public around 1:30 a.m. tampering with the solar equipment. Police officers from Industrial Area responded and tried to convince him to come down, but he refused.
Authorities then called the Nairobi County Fire Brigade to assist with a rescue operation. However, before emergency responders arrived at about 6:30 a.m., the man jumped from the billboard and died upon impact.
Police recovered a bag containing climbing ropes, tools, and solar lighting components at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the individual intended to vandalize and steal the solar equipment.
The man's identity remains unknown, and the body was taken to City Mortuary as investigations continue.
