In a tragic incident on the morning of July 25, Joseph Otieno Omogo, a 55-year-old farmer from Ng’ope Village, Ndhiwa Sub-County, Homa Bay, was reportedly killed by his son during an ambush.
The attack occurred around 5:00 AM while Omogo and a colleague were walking to their farm. The suspect, armed with a machete, assaulted both men, fatally injuring Omogo and critically wounding his companion, who was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for treatment.
Assistant Chief Gabriel Nyatame of Konyango Sub-Location confirmed that the incident stemmed from a prolonged family dispute. Efforts to resolve the conflict at the village and court levels had previously failed, with the son allegedly threatening his father’s life prior to the attack.
Following the assault, the suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Authorities from Ndhiwa Police Station have launched a manhunt to apprehend him.
Officials have urged the community to provide any information that could assist in locating the suspect while cautioning against taking the law into their own hands.
Omogo’s body was taken to the referral hospital’s mortuary for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
