She completed her high school education at Southeast High School in Dalton and later earned a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Dalton State College in 2010.

Joey served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, participating in combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. During his second deployment, he stepped on an improvised explosive device, resulting in the loss of both legs and severe hand injuries. After his recovery, Joey transitioned into media and motivational speaking, becoming a military contributor for Fox News and sharing his story with military and political leaders.
