Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has openly criticized the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for its internal conflicts and inconsistent political stance. Speaking on Ramogi FM on July 29, she described an environment of confusion within the party, which currently collaborates with President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Attack Linked to ODM Leadership
Odhiambo disclosed that she was physically confronted by youths associated with ODM leadership. The incident occurred in a highly secured area where her security team nearly faced access challenges. She believes the attack was orchestrated by party officials who later verbally pressured her to show allegiance to Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, ODM's leader.
Concerns Over Party Direction and Funding
The MP criticized ODM's fluctuating demands regarding key political positions. The party has alternated between rejecting and claiming presidential and deputy presidential ambitions, now demanding the deputy presidency alongside half of government positions. Odhiambo questioned the party's credibility and coherence due to these inconsistent positions.
Reflecting on the turmoil following the death of former ODM leader Raila Odinga, she acknowledged initial challenges but stated that the current discord has escalated excessively.
Electoral Prospects and Internal Democracy
Expressing skepticism about ODM's ability to secure 100 parliamentary seats in the upcoming general election, Odhiambo called for transparent and fair primaries within the party. She described herself as an elder in ODM who feels compelled to speak candidly about the party's issues.
Additionally, she revealed that UDA financially supports ODM, a disclosure that may intensify scrutiny of the alliance between the two parties.
Odhiambo concluded by stating her refusal to be part of the ongoing confusion, a comment that has sparked speculation about her future political alignment.
