Mombasa United has commenced a significant squad overhaul by releasing 14 players as part of preparations for the upcoming 2026/27 season. The club aims to strengthen its roster ahead of a potential return to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

With only 12 players remaining, the club is set for a major rebuilding phase. Mombasa United is also expected to announce a new head coach and several new signings in the coming days as preparations accelerate.
The club's promotion to the KPL is pending a decision by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) regarding the Football Kenya Federation's (FKF) promotion process. Mombasa United is contesting this process alongside Migori Youth and 3K FC.
Club President Abdirahman Hussein expressed optimism about the tribunal's ruling, stating, "We are ready for any verdict. There's nothing much we can do, but we are very positive."
