Borabu parliamentary hopeful Morara Kebaso has commended Fred Matiang’i for his strategic grassroots mobilisation across the Mt Kenya region as he prepares for the 2027 presidential contest.
In a post on X dated July 26, 2026, Kebaso revealed that Matiang’i engaged with over 10,000 opinion leaders in multiple meetings last week, signalling a focused effort to build a strong community-level support base before launching a full-scale campaign.
Strategic Groundwork Over Large Rallies
Kebaso stressed that while large public rallies generate excitement, they are insufficient for sustained political success. He emphasized the importance of establishing networks at ward and community levels, praising Matiang’i’s methodical approach.
“Anyone aiming for the presidency must prioritise serious grassroots mobilisation and demonstrate a solid track record for voters to assess,” Kebaso noted.
Preparing Mt Kenya for 2027
Matiang’i has recently met with various groups including women leaders from Kiambu and Jubilee aspirants from Nyeri, focusing on revitalising the Jubilee Party’s local structures. His campaign strategy centres on ward-by-ward and house-to-house mobilisation rather than relying solely on national rallies.
According to an Infotrak poll released on July 13, Matiang’i leads with 19% support among presidential hopefuls in Central Kenya, ahead of Kalonzo Musyoka at 13%, and President William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua each at 12%.
Call for Opposition to Boost Grassroots Efforts
Kebaso, who recently endorsed Matiang’i’s presidential bid, challenged other opposition figures to enhance their community engagement strategies instead of depending mainly on media presence and large rallies.
“This is a call for all opposition leaders to intensify their grassroots mobilisation to effectively compete in the 2027 race,” he urged.
