MP Junet Mohamed Admits MPs Were Paid to Impeach Rigathi Gachagua

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has publicly acknowledged that members of the National Assembly were financially incentivized to support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in October 2024.

Speaking at a joint United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) event in Kakamega, Junet alleged that Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot was responsible for distributing the funds to legislators.

Junet Mohamed stated:

• "When we were impeaching Gachagua, money was circulating within Parliament. The accounting officer was Aaron Cheruiyot."
• He also criticized some MPs for misusing the money, advising them to invest in property rather than frivolous spending.
• He singled out an unnamed lawmaker who squandered funds on city women instead of building a home.

The confession came amid a politically charged atmosphere where leaders from various parties were engaging Kenyans with their agendas. Junet made these remarks at the residence of Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya.

Meanwhile, in Bungoma, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna led a campaign caravan criticizing President William Ruto, who was attending a church event in Busia.

This revelation adds a new dimension to the political discourse surrounding the impeachment, highlighting alleged corruption within parliamentary processes.
