Nancy Wambui, a resident of Kiharu in Murang'a County, endured a challenging two-year prison sentence after her boyfriend vanished shortly after her arrest on theft allegations.
At seven months pregnant, Nancy was detained following an incident involving missing goats from her uncle's homestead. Authorities suspected her of facilitating the theft due to her association with the man who had visited her earlier that night.
Background and Family Struggles
Nancy's difficulties began early; she dropped out of school due to financial constraints and became a mother at 18. Despite the father of her first child expressing interest in marriage, her mother declined, citing Nancy's youth. After giving birth in 2021, Nancy raised her child with limited support, as her family faced economic hardships exacerbated by the death of her father in 2022 and responsibility for eight siblings.
Arrest and Abandonment
Following the theft accusations, Nancy firmly denied any involvement. However, her boyfriend, who had been visiting her during her pregnancy, disappeared after learning of her arrest, turning off his phone and leaving her to face the charges alone.
Despite the absence of direct evidence linking her to the crime, Nancy was incarcerated for two years, including the period when she gave birth to her second child while in prison.

Looking back, Nancy expressed regret for not heeding warning signs and believes unknown individuals were responsible for the theft. She has forgiven her absent boyfriend and expressed gratitude to her mother for her unwavering support during this difficult period.
