Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation between the Judiciary and security agencies to effectively address crimes linked to protests.

Speaking in Keringet, Nakuru County, Murkomen highlighted the government's commitment to maintaining national security and deterring criminal acts such as arson, looting, and vandalism during demonstrations.

Call for Judicial Support

The Cabinet Secretary appealed to the Judiciary to back law enforcement efforts by ensuring suspects involved in protest-related offenses face timely and firm legal action. He expressed concern over instances where arrested individuals are quickly released, undermining the work of security officers.

Balancing Rights and Security

While affirming the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, Murkomen stressed that criminal behavior under the guise of protests must be met with appropriate legal consequences. Protecting lives, businesses, and public infrastructure remains a government priority.

Security Measures in Keringet

  • Ordered transfer of all officers stationed at Keringet Police Station
  • Deployed a special anti-drug operations team with 20 additional officers to boost local security
  • IG Douglas Kanja announced intensified operations against criminal gangs and cautioned politicians against abusing VIP security resources

Murkomen urged citizens to support law enforcement by reporting crimes and respecting the rule of law, underscoring that cooperation between the Executive, Judiciary, and the public is vital for peace and stability.
