Nairobi police have launched a successful crackdown targeting organised criminal gangs involved in violent robberies across the city and its outskirts. The operation left one armed gang member dead, with eight others arrested, and more than 500 stolen smartphones recovered.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud revealed that the intelligence-led offensive focused on gangs linked to a wave of violent robberies in areas including Joska, Huruma, Mathare, and surrounding counties.
During the raid in Joska, an armed suspect was fatally shot after confronting officers. The police also seized four pistols and ammunition believed to have been used in armed highway robberies along Thika Road, Mombasa Road, and routes within Kiambu County.
Recovered Items and Ongoing Investigations
- Over 500 stolen smartphones were recovered and are being documented to identify their rightful owners.
- Firearms will undergo forensic analysis to ascertain their use in previous crimes.
- The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will assist in tracing the origin of the recovered devices and linking them to reported cases.

Commander Mohamud emphasized that the crackdown was based on thorough intelligence gathering and aimed at dismantling organised robbery networks terrorising Nairobi residents. He urged the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by sharing information to aid further arrests and recovery efforts.
