In a heartwarming gesture, Nairobi resident Atieno Otieno surprised her house manager of six years with a carefully curated birthday gift box filled with beauty products that reflected her growing passion for cosmetology.
Atieno shared a video on social media showing the assembly of the gift package, which included items such as a hairbrush, makeup brushes, beauty blenders, biodegradable makeup wipes, highlighter, eyeshadow, lip oil, and blush. Each item was thoughtfully chosen to support the house manager's interests and studies.
A Bond Beyond Work
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Atieno described her house manager as "part of the family" and praised her commitment to balancing domestic responsibilities with her education. She revealed that she has been supporting the house manager’s decision to enroll in beauty college, funding her studies as she pursues a new career path.
"She has been with my family for over six years, and over time, her role has evolved beyond domestic work to becoming a student and a valued family member," Atieno said.
Birthday Celebrations in Two Acts
The celebrations were split into two parts. During the day, Atieno surprised her house manager with a birthday cake at the beauty college. Later in the evening, she presented the gift box at home, which brought visible joy and gratitude.
"Seeing her reaction was incredibly heartwarming. She was genuinely shocked and deeply grateful," Atieno recalled.

For Atieno, the gifts were more than just a birthday celebration—they were a way to acknowledge the house manager’s dedication and to encourage her ongoing growth.
"Kindness should create opportunities. When someone pours so much into your life, it's only right to give back. I'm cheering her on every step of the way," she said.
