Former Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba recently held a strategic meeting with Austria’s newly appointed Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Dr. Simone Knapp. The discussions took place during a courtesy visit at the Kenya High Commission in Kampala, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and regional collaboration.
Expanding Kenya-Austria Cooperation
Namwamba highlighted Ambassador Knapp’s extensive diplomatic background, noting her previous roles as Austria’s envoy to Ethiopia, the African Union, and IGAD. The two leaders explored opportunities to deepen cooperation between Kenya and Austria, covering topics such as East African Community (EAC) integration, lessons from the European Union, and peace and security mandates within Africa.
“Kenya and Austria share robust bilateral and multilateral ties, both hosting key United Nations agencies,” Namwamba remarked. He expressed optimism about broadening this partnership under Ambassador Knapp’s representation, warmly welcoming her to Kenya.

This engagement aligns with Kenya’s growing diplomatic efforts to enhance development, regional integration, and governance partnerships. On the same day, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i met with Acting US Ambassador Susan Burns to discuss Kenya’s development goals and exchanged views on national priorities.

President William Ruto’s recent hosting of King Letsie III of Lesotho, the African Union’s Nutrition Champion, further underscores Kenya’s commitment to addressing continental challenges such as food security and malnutrition.
