Senior Counsel Nelson Havi has come to the defense of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following widespread discussion about the simplicity of his home in Bungoma.

Photos of Sifuna’s modest single-storey house, featuring a red corrugated iron roof and cream walls, circulated widely on social media, sparking mixed reactions. While some critics questioned the house's simplicity, others praised it as evidence of a politician who has not engaged in public resource misappropriation.

On X, Havi described Sifuna’s lifestyle as a testament to his accountability and integrity rather than a shortcoming. He stated, "Edwin Sifuna has not stolen from the public or at all. He has led an honest and modest but illustrious and successful life and career as an advocate and leader. In fact, his simple house is indicative of the degree and height of his accountability and integrity. He is the model leader."

Public Reaction and Political Implications

The debate around the house's appearance also drew commentary from National Assembly minority leader Junet Mohamed, who insinuated that Sifuna prioritized personal matters over building a more elaborate home.

Despite the scrutiny, Sifuna’s supporters remain steadfast. His recent homecoming event in Bungoma attracted thousands, signaling growing political support as calls increase for him to consider a presidential run in the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna, who previously served as ODM secretary general under the late Raila Odinga, has become a prominent opposition figure. While he has not publicly addressed the controversy over his home, the event underscored his rising political momentum.
