Former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi has appealed to Mumias East MP Peter Salasya to cease his persistent criticisms of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, emphasizing that time will ultimately assess the senator’s political journey.

In a statement released on July 29, 2026, Havi cautioned Salasya against repeatedly focusing his political rhetoric on Sifuna, describing the ongoing attacks as redundant and unnecessary.

Background to the Dispute

Peter Salasya has frequently dismissed the growing enthusiasm around Sifuna, particularly following the senator’s well-attended homecoming rallies in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties. Salasya has challenged the notion that large crowds equate to electoral success and questioned the viability of Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.

Moreover, Salasya has alleged that Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement is a "National Intelligence Service project" aimed at undermining the opposition’s efforts to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.

Regional Political Dynamics

The Mumias East legislator has also accused Sifuna of attempting to weaken the influence of Democratic Action Party leader Eugene Wamalwa in Western Kenya. Salasya insists Wamalwa remains the region’s foremost political figure and has urged Sifuna’s supporters to align with Wamalwa rather than form a separate faction.

Reactions to Political Endorsements

Following Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s commendation of Sifuna’s mobilization efforts, Salasya responded critically, arguing that Sifuna’s political stature does not yet compare to established leaders such as Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka. He stressed that genuine political influence is earned over time through consistent leadership and public trust, not merely by rally attendance.

Havi’s Call for Restraint

In direct remarks to Salasya, Havi stated: "Peter Salasya, it is enough. Do not be a broken record. Let time tell whether or not you are right on Edwin Sifuna." He urged patience and advised allowing political developments to unfold naturally without incessant criticism.
