Severe wildfires in Stourbridge have resulted in the complete destruction of nineteen homes, as firefighters continue battling multiple blazes across the West Midlands.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who visited the affected area, described the fires as "utterly devastating" and warned that the country remains a "tinderbox" due to the ongoing extreme heat conditions.
National Emergency Alert Issued
In response to the elevated wildfire threat, millions of people across England and Wales received an emergency alert urging caution. The message, issued at the request of fire and rescue services, warned against any activities that could ignite fires, emphasizing the very high risk nationwide.

- In Wales, a major incident was declared near Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, leading to evacuations and road closures.
- Firefighters in Hampshire have been combating a wildfire in the New Forest for six consecutive days.
- Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service responded to sixteen emergencies in a single afternoon, including a fire at Mousehold Heath in Norwich.

Prime Minister Burnham highlighted the priority of ensuring public safety and preventing further outbreaks. He urged the public to avoid lighting fires in gardens, parks, moorlands, and wooded areas during the heatwave.
"Our firefighters and emergency responders are working around the clock in incredibly difficult conditions," Burnham said. "We can all help them by taking the emergency alert seriously and following the guidance in place."
