The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has intensified efforts to enforce pedestrian road safety regulations at the Mutindwa Footbridge near the Buruburu Interchange in Nairobi.
During a recent operation, 35 pedestrians were arrested for crossing the busy road without using the designated footbridge, an action that disrupts traffic flow and endangers both pedestrians and motorists.
NTSA’s statement on July 27, 2026, highlighted:
- Ongoing enforcement targeting pedestrians who bypass the footbridge.
- Arrested individuals will be charged in court for violating traffic laws.
- The operation is part of a wider campaign to reduce pedestrian-related accidents nationwide.
The Mutindwa Footbridge sits on one of Nairobi’s most trafficked corridors, yet some pedestrians continue to cross at unsafe points, forcing drivers to brake abruptly and increasing accident risks.
NTSA urges all pedestrians to use footbridges, zebra crossings, and other approved crossing points to enhance safety and avoid legal penalties.
