Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badlisha has officially joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, signaling a shift in the county's political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement shared on his social media on July 29, 2026, Gachagua welcomed Badlisha and the Nyandarua County leadership into DCP, confirming their commitment to contest the upcoming elections on the party’s ticket.
Commitment to Party Primaries and Vision
Gachagua assured that the party primaries would be conducted fairly, with Badlisha and his team aiming to defend their seats under the DCP banner. He emphasized the shared vision for Kenya’s future, highlighting the delegation’s message of goodwill from Nyandarua residents who are aligning with what he described as a call for national liberation.
“The people of Nyandarua County, led by their governor, have brought a message of goodwill; they are responding to the call for the liberation of Kenya. To them, the future is green. On the liberation of our nation, we are on the same wavelength. We will achieve the best future for our nation,” Gachagua said.
Growing Momentum for DCP
The former Deputy President noted a continuing trend of leaders leaving other parties, particularly the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), to join DCP as the party gains traction ahead of the next election cycle.
“The mass exodus from unpopular parties, notably the infamous UDA, continues,” he remarked before concluding, “God bless Kenya.”
Badlisha’s Political Shift
Badlisha’s move follows the DCP’s decisive victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, where he publicly urged residents to maintain peace and respect the democratic process, acknowledging the electorate’s choice.
“You have spoken and maintained peace. You have made your decisions. Moving forward, I want to tell you that the green colour symbolises wealth,” the governor said during a pre-election address.
