Nyandarua Senator John Methu has declared Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua as the strongest contender to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the second day of the DCP's campaign tour in Nakuru County, Methu said Gachagua has applied significant pressure on President Ruto, placing him in a difficult political position.
"Rigathi Gachagua has cornered William Ruto. He has him in a tight spot," Methu stated.
The two politicians, once allies during the 2022 elections, have since become rivals following Gachagua's impeachment in October 2024. Gachagua has positioned himself as a key opposition figure aiming to rally Mount Kenya voters against Ruto.
Methu highlighted the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election victory by the DCP as a clear indication of Gachagua's growing political influence and capacity to challenge the incumbent president.
"The leader who will take William Ruto to Sugoi is Rigathi Gachagua," Methu asserted, referring to a symbolic location representing political defeat.
He emphasized the importance of both voting and safeguarding votes in the upcoming elections, critiquing calls to vote and then disengage from the election process.
"The task is to vote and protect the vote. Forget that notion of voting and going home," Methu said, addressing opposition supporters.
On the same day, the DCP continued its grassroots mobilisation in Nakuru County, with activities spanning Rongai, Molo, Elburgon, Njoro Posta, and culminating in Nakuru town where a new party office was inaugurated. This office is expected to coordinate DCP's efforts in the region ahead of the 2027 polls.
