The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended Bernard Mutegi, a procurement officer, over allegations of defrauding Mwai Kibaki Hospital Annex in Nyeri county of KSh 675,000.
Mutegi was arrested in Chuka by detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit attached to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) following investigations into a fraud scheme.
Details of the Alleged Fraud
Investigators found that between June 30, 2022, and November 8, 2023, Mutegi fabricated delivery notes and payment vouchers in the name of a company called Fesmat Investments. These counterfeit documents falsely indicated that aprons had been delivered to the hospital, prompting the release of KSh 675,000 as payment for goods that were never supplied.
