The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has restructured its representation in the Senate, resulting in the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi from prominent committee roles.
Senator Sifuna will relinquish his seat on the influential Senate County Public Accounts Committee, which oversees county governments and assemblies. Pending approval by the Senate House Business Committee, he is expected to be reassigned to the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Committee. Kilifi Senator and Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo is set to assume Sifuna's former position.
Meanwhile, Senator Osotsi was voted out of the Senate County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee and will be moved to the Trade, Industrialisation and Tourism Committee. His seat will be taken over by Taita Taveta Senator Johannes Mwaruma.
Minority Leader Madzayo described the reshuffle as a routine procedural adjustment, dismissing suggestions that it was linked to internal disagreements within ODM. The changes come amid ongoing debates within the party regarding its political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election, with differing views on whether to maintain opposition status or continue cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
