The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has given the green light to prosecute a Senior Principal Magistrate and a senior probation officer on bribery allegations related to a Kangema Law Courts criminal case.
Following an independent review of an inquiry file submitted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the ODPP found sufficient evidence to charge the two individuals with receiving a bribe, contrary to sections of the Anti-Bribery Act No. 47 of 2016.
Details of the Allegations
- On July 16, 2026, the Principal Probation Officer at Kangema allegedly requested Sh170,000 from a businessman on behalf of the magistrate.
- The money was sought in exchange for a favourable sentence in Criminal Case No. E645 of 2024, where the businessman had been convicted.
- Between July 16 and 21, 2026, the magistrate is accused of soliciting the same amount through the businessman, intending to influence the sentencing.
- On July 21, 2026, the magistrate reportedly received Sh150,000 as part of the bribery arrangement.
The ODPP has directed that the two suspects be arraigned promptly before a competent court, where they will face the charges and have the opportunity to enter pleas.
