Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has urged Kenyan youth to fully leverage opportunities in education, leadership, and national development, highlighting that their choices today shape the nation's future.

Speaking at the requiem mass for the late student leader Elvis “Beast” Otieno in Mombasa, Omollo praised Otieno’s dedication to peacebuilding, mentorship, and support of government initiatives, especially in education.

He encouraged young leaders and students to follow Otieno’s example of service, emphasizing that true leadership is reflected in the positive impact one has on others.

Recalling his last meeting with Otieno during the FIFA World Cup finals in Mombasa, Omollo described him as dependable, selfless, and a unifying figure. The news of Otieno’s sudden passing deeply affected young leaders nationwide.

Omollo highlighted that Otieno embodied the vision of a united Kenya where every child, regardless of background or economic status, has equal chances to succeed. This vision underpins government investments in education and youth empowerment under President William Ruto’s administration.

Investing in Education and Youth Empowerment

  • The national education budget has increased from around Sh500 billion to nearly Sh780 billion in three years.
  • More than 100,000 teachers have been recruited to enhance learning outcomes nationwide.
  • Ongoing reforms in higher education funding and legislation aim to guarantee access to courses for all qualified students, regardless of financial means.

Omollo described education as Kenya’s greatest equalizer and a key driver of social and economic transformation. He acknowledged that while reforms can face resistance, the government remains committed to initiatives that improve citizens’ lives and expand opportunities for future generations.

He also expressed condolences to Otieno’s family and mourners, urging them to maintain faith during this difficult time.

Omollo commended Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir for his support to the bereaved family and pledged ongoing solidarity beyond the funeral.

Describing Elvis “Beast” Otieno as a patriotic youth leader, Omollo affirmed that his legacy of unity, service, and empowerment will continue to inspire generations ahead.

The memorial was attended by Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Fikirini Jacobs, student leaders, family, friends, and hundreds of mourners celebrating Otieno’s life and impact.
