Siaya Governor James Orengo has pronounced the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) "dead" and announced himself as the leader of the emerging Linda Mwananchi Party. He vowed to promote the new party's policies as they prepare for the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a mobilisation tour in Western Kenya, Orengo emphasized that Linda Mwananchi has replaced ODM as the platform through which they intend to advance their political agenda. "I am the party leader of Linda Mwananchi and will be responsible for selling its policies. ODM is finished. Our new party is Linda Mwananchi," he declared.
The Linda Mwananchi movement has been actively campaigning across Western Kenya, aiming to build grassroots support ahead of the upcoming elections. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, alongside other leaders, has been holding rallies in counties such as Trans Nzoia and Bungoma, receiving backing from local residents including monetary donations.
Sifuna highlighted that the movement is primarily funded by ordinary citizens rather than affluent financiers, promoting a politics centered on accountability to the people. "This convoy and the funds supporting us come directly from the people of Chwele," he stated.
The campaign team, which includes Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, has engaged communities in Kitale, Kiminini, Kamukuywa, Kimilili, Chwele, and Bungoma town.
The rise of Linda Mwananchi coincides with heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition figures seek to consolidate influence in key regions. This Western Kenya push also unfolds amid competing efforts by Kenya Kwanza leaders, notably Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who are similarly mobilizing support for President William Ruto.
