Professor Patricia Kingori has made history as one of the youngest Black women to be appointed full professor at the University of Oxford. Born in Kenya, she now serves as Professor of Global Health Ethics, where she directs pioneering research tackling critical ethical issues in public health and crisis management.
Leading Influential Global Health Research
Kingori heads an eight-year Wellcome Discovery Award project exploring the complex question of how and when global health emergencies are declared over. Her research investigates the implications of these decisions for governments, communities, and policy worldwide.
In addition, she co-leads a creative initiative called Steeling Ourselves: Reflections from Port Talbot After the Blast Furnace, combining community stories, academic insights, and art to examine resilience and identity following industrial change.
Impact Beyond Academia
Beyond her academic contributions, Professor Kingori advises the World Health Organization, influencing global health governance. She is also known for producing the documentary The Shadow Scholars, which exposes the global essay writing industry and sparks discussions on academic integrity and inequality.
