The National Police Service (NPS) has apprehended four individuals in two separate Nairobi operations aimed at curbing mobile phone snatching and the illicit trade of stolen electronic devices.
Acting on intelligence, officers from Muthangari Police Station arrested two suspects in Kawangware linked to multiple phone snatching incidents affecting local residents. The suspects were found with two mobile phones believed to have been recently stolen. The recovered devices have been secured as evidence, and the suspects remain in custody pending arraignment.
In a separate operation on July 28, 2026, Kamukunji Police Station officers intercepted a key figure involved in the illegal electronic goods trade near Nairobi Bus Station. This operation, also intelligence-led, resulted in the recovery of various mobile phones and electronic gadgets suspected to be stolen. Two more suspects were arrested and detained as investigations continue.
The NPS highlighted that phone snatching remains a persistent problem in Nairobi, with criminals exploiting the city's busy streets and using motorcycles to evade capture. The police urged the public to refrain from purchasing gadgets from unauthorized dealers, warning that such transactions perpetuate the market for stolen property.
