Authorities have launched an investigation following the death of a female police officer at Kisii Central Police Station in Kisii County. The officer, identified as Bosibori, was discovered dead inside a locked communications office within the station.
According to Kisii Central Sub-County Police Commander Musa Omari Imamai, Bosibori reported for duty on Monday afternoon and was assigned to work alongside a colleague. Later that night, the two officers returned to the station, after which they separated. The colleague assumed Bosibori had gone to the washroom, but she had instead locked herself inside an unused office.
When Bosibori’s colleague attempted to open the locked door the following morning and failed, other officers forced entry. They found Bosibori seated on the floor with her service firearm beside her. Preliminary observations indicated she had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
"Upon closer inspection, we established that she had sustained what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound from her service firearm," Imamai said. The officer was 42 years old.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her death. No suicide note or clear signs of emotional distress were found, and the officer had shown no visible signs of distress while on duty.
The body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

The incident has deeply affected the police community at the station and has reignited discussions about the mental health challenges faced by officers in the Kenya Police Service.
