In a disturbing discovery, police officers investigating Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull uncovered a scene described as a "horror" with bodies and ashes improperly stored.
The front of the funeral home presented an inviting atmosphere with comfortable seating and décor reflecting local heritage. However, behind a concealed partition, officers found dimly lit corridors cluttered with rubbish and disorder.
During a raid in March 2024, authorities recovered approximately 35 bodies and more than 100 sets of ashes. The funeral home's director, Robert Bush, was arrested at Heathrow Airport shortly after returning from a holiday.

During interviews, Bush criticized police treatment as "vindictive" and compared himself to a revolutionary figure, though he acknowledged non-compliance in record-keeping and accounting.
He also declined to comment on questions regarding the misuse of funds from funeral plans, despite evidence of payments to his business account and unrelated expenses.
Bush's sentencing hearing began in July 2026 at Hull Crown Court, where victims' families described his actions as "evil" and detailed the emotional toll of his misconduct.
