Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has instructed National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) to strengthen efforts against drug trafficking and grassroots crime. The directive was issued during a meeting with NGAOs in Mombasa, emphasizing the need for enhanced community policing and intelligence gathering.

Omollo highlighted the strategic importance of Mombasa, noting its role as a major economic hub and home to the Port of Mombasa. He stressed that maintaining peace and security in the area is crucial for the country’s economic stability, international trade, tourism, and investment.

Key directives to local administrators

  • County Commissioners, Deputy County Commissioners, Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, and Village Elders are tasked with improving surveillance and intelligence at the grassroots level.
  • They must collaborate closely with the National Police Service, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, schools, religious leaders, and parents to identify drug hotspots and dismantle trafficking networks.
  • Efforts to support rehabilitation programs and protect youth from substance abuse are to be intensified.
  • Administrators are urged to ensure no eligible Kenyan is left without a National Identity Card, which is essential for accessing education, employment, financial services, and government programs.

Omollo also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving education, noting the allocation of Sh787.4 billion in the national budget for the sector. He encouraged NGAOs to work with schools and parents to enhance enrolment, learner retention, and skills development through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

He praised Mombasa County for achieving an 83 percent registration rate under the Social Health Authority (SHA), attributing this success to collaboration between national administrators, the county government, and the Ministry of Health in expanding affordable healthcare access.

Finally, Omollo assured NGAOs of continued government support through improved facilitation, capacity building, and operational resources to bolster security and public service delivery.
