Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has pledged full security support for the Linda Mwananchi movement's upcoming rally in Homa Bay County scheduled for Sunday. He cautioned that any individuals or groups attempting to interfere with the event will face strict legal consequences.

The assurance follows concerns raised by some Linda Mwananchi leaders about possible interference by local political figures aiming to hinder the movement’s activities and prevent access to rally venues.

Security Measures and Political Rights

Speaking on Thursday, PS Omollo confirmed that security agencies have already implemented measures to ensure peace during the rally. He emphasized that all political groups are entitled to hold lawful meetings anywhere in Kenya without intimidation or disruption.

"Any form of political goonship will not be tolerated. Our country must uphold tolerance for diverse opinions without violence," Omollo stated.

Concerns from Linda Mwananchi Leaders

The movement’s security worries surfaced after Suba South MP Caroli Omondi reported alleged plans by certain local politicians to block access and disrupt the rally. Omondi also disclosed that some Homa Bay MCAs had been pressured or threatened over their association with Linda Mwananchi.

Linda Mwananchi has engaged senior security officials, including Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General Douglas Kanja, to safeguard its leaders, supporters, and residents during the Homa Bay tour.

Siaya Governor James Orengo, a prominent Linda Mwananchi figure, reaffirmed his commitment to attend the rally alongside other opposition leaders, invoking constitutional protections for freedom of movement, association, expression, and peaceful assembly.
