A disturbing video circulating on social media captures the moment a speeding 14-seater matatu clipped renowned Nairobi biker Brayo during a night ride, causing him to crash onto the road.
The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, 27 July, and was recorded by what appears to be an action camera mounted on Brayo’s helmet or chest. The footage shows the matatu dangerously overtaking, its rear end striking Brayo and sending him tumbling to the tarmac.
Fortunately, a fellow motorcyclist who witnessed the crash quickly stopped to assist Brayo, while the matatu driver pulled over a short distance ahead instead of fleeing the scene. Brayo reassured his companion that he was unharmed and that his motorcycle had sustained minimal damage.
Reflecting on the incident, Brayo noted, "If he had run away after hitting me, it would have been an issue," highlighting how the driver's decision to stop helped prevent further complications.
The crash has reignited public frustration over the reckless behaviour frequently exhibited by matatu drivers on Kenyan roads. Brayo, well respected in the local biking community for his skill and generosity, maintained composure despite the frightening event, earning further admiration from followers.
