Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly announced his support for Senator Edwin Sifuna's presidential aspirations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua's endorsement came after Sifuna held a major rally in Bungoma County on July 26, attracting thousands of residents as part of his Linda Mwananchi campaign tour in Western Kenya.
Gachagua's Support and Political Positioning
Following the successful rally, Gachagua revealed that he personally called Sifuna to congratulate him on the strong turnout. He credited himself for aiding Sifuna's rise in political stature and positioned himself as a key influencer within the opposition ahead of the upcoming elections.
“I’m very pleased with the Western Kenya meeting. I called him to say well done. Without my support, he wouldn’t be shaking hands as president. I will back Edwin Sifuna if he becomes the opposition’s presidential candidate,” Gachagua stated.
The former deputy president emphasized that his support is driven by the common goal of unseating President William Ruto. He affirmed that any candidate or effort contributing to this objective will receive his backing.
Sifuna's Growing Influence in Western Kenya
The Bungoma rally highlighted Sifuna’s increasing appeal beyond his ODM role, demonstrating his efforts to build a national political profile. The event is seen as a strategic move to solidify opposition support in the Western region ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua’s endorsement adds significant weight to Sifuna’s campaign, especially given Gachagua’s influence among some Mount Kenya voters and his critical stance towards the current administration following his impeachment in 2024.
