Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially welcomed 24 sitting Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Laikipia and Nakuru counties into his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). The event took place at his Wamunyoro residence on July 29, highlighting a significant shift in Kenya's political landscape.

MCAs Joining DCP

The group included 12 MCAs from Laikipia County:

  • Paul Kirenyi Leshuel (Mukogodo East Ward)
  • Nicholas Mwaniki Muturi (Tigithi Ward)
  • Irene Wachuka (Igwamiti Ward)
  • Catherine Nyokabi Kibui (Ngobit Ward)
  • Daniel Mugweru Muchemi (Umande Ward)
  • Simon Kanyutu Kimani (Marmanet Ward)
  • Samuel Mugambi Gatati (Salama Ward)
  • Stephen Ndiritu Kamau (Thingithu Ward)
  • Anthony Theuri Wambui (Nanyuki Ward)
  • George Karuiru Wairimu (Ol-Moran Ward)
  • Joseph Gitahi Macharia (Githiga Ward)
  • Mary Gathoni Muriuki (specially elected MCA)

The Nakuru County delegation consisted of 13 representatives:

Political Implications and Gachagua’s Message

Gachagua described the influx of MCAs as part of a broader wave of defections from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), The Service Party (TSP), and other smaller parties he referred to as "wheelbarrow outfits." He predicted these parties would be reduced to "mere shells" by December 2025 due to the ongoing mass exodus.

Addressing the gathered MCAs, Gachagua emphasized the growing momentum of the DCP and linked the party’s green colours to its vision, stating: "Green is Wealth, Green is the future."

This event marks one of the largest single-day incorporations of elected officials into the DCP since Gachagua launched the party following his impeachment as Deputy President in October 2024.
