President William Ruto has committed to advancing key infrastructure and social projects in Taita Taveta County, promising to complete ongoing road works, expand the railway network, and issue thousands of land title deeds.

Speaking at a church service in Taveta Constituency, Ruto highlighted several road projects aimed at improving connectivity and boosting agriculture and trade. These include the 65km Ilasit-Rombo-Njukini-Taveta road linking Kajiado and Taita Taveta, the 25km Cess-Rekeke-Lake Jipe road, and the 55km Mto Mwagodi-Dawida-Mbale-Wundanyi-Bura Junction road. He also mentioned improvements along the Voi-Sagala and Taveta-Eldoro corridors.

In addition, the President announced plans for a Sh17 billion investment in affordable housing within the county, emphasizing job creation for young people through these projects. He stated, "Some say we are eating affordable housing. But do you think plumbers don't get paid? These are jobs for people at the bottom."

Ruto further revealed intentions to expand railway services with new stations planned in Voi, Mwatate, Mkatau, Bura, and Maungu, which will enhance transport and trade opportunities.

On land ownership, the government will issue 500,000 title deeds across the Coast region, including 45,000 in Taita Taveta. Survey work is underway, and the President promised to return in September to distribute these documents, ensuring residents have legal land ownership.

Addressing the challenge of elephant crop destruction, Ruto said the Kenya Wildlife Service will reinforce electric fencing and dig trenches to protect farms. He acknowledged that elephants had recently damaged crops on his own farm.

In healthcare, the President noted that 73% of the county's population is enrolled in the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). The county’s health facilities have received Sh950 million over the past 18 months, and plans are underway to upgrade Taveta Hospital from Level 3 to Level 4 with modern equipment.

Ruto also announced a Sh1 billion allocation to connect an additional 10,000 households to electricity in Taita Taveta, further improving residents’ living standards.
