Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has rejected assertions that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is under political siege. Addressing the media on July 29, 2026, Chege described the rumors as exaggerated and emphasized that Kindiki remains focused on fulfilling his constitutional duties.
Chege explained that the political environment is currently competitive as leaders vie for influence ahead of the 2027 general election. She pointed to the recent endorsement of Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya by Suna East MP and ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohamed as the party’s preferred deputy presidential candidate during coalition talks with United Democratic Alliance (UDA). This development, she argued, should not be interpreted as a sign of internal conflict within Kenya Kwanza or a threat to Kindiki’s position.
Her comments come amid circulating reports that Kindiki might be facing challenges similar to those that preceded former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment. Gachagua has cautioned Kindiki to remain vigilant and urged his supporters not to attack the deputy president, affirming Kindiki as "one of their own."
Kindiki himself has refuted claims that key responsibilities from his office, such as chairing the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC), have been reassigned to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. He dismissed such reports as false and labeled them as fake news.
