Safaricom has provided clear instructions to help customers disable persistent pop-up messages that appear after every call, following user complaints about ineffective previous solutions.
Customer Complaints Prompt Clarification
The issue gained attention when a Twitter user, Peter Mucheke (@Kiogify), publicly requested a permanent fix for the recurring flash messages, which he noted mainly affect Android devices. His post on July 28, 2026, sparked similar feedback from other subscribers frustrated by the interruptions.
How to Opt Out of Notifications
Responding via its customer care handle, Safaricom apologised for the inconvenience and offered two methods to disable these notifications:
- Call Sign Messages: Dial
*836#and press OK to deactivate. - End-of-Call Notifications: Dial
*456#, select My Account, then choose End of Call Notification to opt out.
The company advised customers who continue to experience issues after trying these steps to send a screenshot of the message to customer care for further investigation.
Understanding the Notifications
End-of-call notifications typically appear immediately after voice calls and may include airtime balance updates, promotional offers, or service links. Call Sign messages are service-related alerts that depend on subscription settings. While some users appreciate these alerts, many find them intrusive.
Android Devices and Persistent Alerts
Although Safaricom did not confirm if the problem is exclusive to Android, the complaint highlighted a trend of Android users encountering these notifications more frequently. Experts explain that such messages can originate either from SIM Toolkit apps or network-based value-added services, affecting the disabling process depending on the device and service.
Growing Role of Social Media in Customer Support
Safaricom continues to leverage its X (formerly Twitter) customer care platform to address a variety of subscriber issues, from M-PESA and SIM card challenges to network problems. The company typically provides self-help USSD codes before escalating unresolved cases via direct messages, underscoring social media’s importance in modern customer engagement.
