On Tuesday, July 28, Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau was formally sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou constituency, taking his place in the National Assembly.
Kamau secured the parliamentary seat in a by-election held on July 16, representing the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). He garnered 35,440 votes to claim victory.
Background of the By-Election
The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat became vacant earlier this year, following the death of the three-term MP David Njuguna Kiaraho in March. Kiaraho had served the constituency for three consecutive terms before his passing due to a brief illness.
Kamau’s Political and Educational Journey
- Born and raised in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County.
- Attended AC Primary School in Karau/Kaimbaga and later Utumishi Boys High School.
- Graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics.
- Entered elective politics in 2013 by winning the Karau Ward MCA seat on a TNA/DP ticket.
- Served as the DCP coordinator for Nyandarua County, enhancing the party's grassroots presence.
Kamau was accompanied to the swearing-in ceremony by MPs Wanjiku Muhia of Kipipiri and Augustine Kamande Mwafrika of Roysambu.
He will serve as Ol Kalou MP for the remainder of the 13th Parliament, which runs until the general elections scheduled for August 2027.
