Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has indicated a willingness to vie for the presidency in the 2027 General Election, provided the decision is collectively endorsed by Kenyans.
Speaking on Citizen TV's The Explainer, Sifuna revealed that the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has been engaging citizens nationwide, is seriously contemplating fielding a presidential candidate. However, he emphasized that the final decision will be made through broad consultations rather than by any individual.
Nationwide Consultations Underway
The movement has already toured 16 counties and intends to visit all regions before settling on its political strategy. Sifuna highlighted that the initiative emerged from public demand for an alternative political direction.
Collective Decision-Making
"If the people feel this is the best way forward, we will not say no," said Sifuna. He stressed that any candidate representing Linda Mwananchi will be chosen collectively to ensure widespread ownership of the decision.
Expanding Political Engagement
The senator noted that the movement is preparing to contest all elective seats, including Member of County Assembly, Member of Parliament, senator, governor, and president. He added that the group is attracting supporters from various political parties and aims to transition into a more structured political entity ahead of the 2027 elections.
"Our responsibility now is to get organised so that everyone knows how to participate, whether as volunteers, donors, or candidates," Sifuna said.

According to Sifuna, public meetings have revealed a strong desire among Kenyans for a new approach to governance. The movement is taking its time to assess support levels across the country before making definitive decisions on its presidential ticket.
