Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has opened up about his wife, addressing public curiosity regarding her absence from the spotlight despite his growing political profile.

In a video shared by Citizen Digital on TikTok, Sifuna disclosed that his wife holds a master’s degree and specialises in environmental conservation. He also revealed she is a practising lawyer who academically surpasses him, as his qualifications include a university degree and training at the Kenya School of Law.

Choice of privacy

The senator emphasised that his wife’s decision to remain out of the public eye is entirely her own. “She will decide whether she wants the public to know who she is or not,” he said, adding that he does not influence her choice.

“She is a lawyer like me; I do not tell her what to do, and she is more schooled than me,” Sifuna stated. He assured that if she chooses to appear publicly, it will be on her own terms.

Public interest and personal life

Edwin Sifuna is a prominent figure in Kenyan opposition politics and a senior principal within the Linda Mwananchi movement. Despite his visibility, he has largely kept his family life private, occasionally mentioning his daughter but rarely his wife.

This revelation offers a rare glimpse into his personal life and highlights his wife’s professional achievements, which had not been publicly acknowledged before.

On his modest home

Separately, Sifuna defended his modest Bungoma house against criticism from some lawmakers. Built in 2015, he stays there briefly during Christmas, expressing a preference for simplicity over extravagance. He compared his home to those of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Opoda and Karen, describing them as modest and modern.
