Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has revealed that he and his political allies were removed from the ODM leadership WhatsApp group shortly after their recent tour in Kitale. He interprets this as a sign of the party leadership sidelining their faction.

Sifuna highlighted ongoing changes in Senate committee leadership as evidence of this shift. A motion was introduced to remove Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi from the chairmanship of the County Public Investments Committee, while Sifuna himself is facing removal from the County Public Accounts Committee. He is expected to be reassigned to the Fisheries Committee, a move he considers a demotion but also an opportunity to learn about agriculture, fisheries, and the blue economy.

Internal Party Fallout

"It is clear the ODM leadership is done with us," Sifuna stated. "After our rally in Kitale, we were kicked out of the ODM WhatsApp group. This was not our decision." He affirmed his continued loyalty to ODM but lamented the frustration of their efforts within the party. Sifuna also mentioned a promise made to his political mentor to avoid destabilizing the party, despite feeling marginalized.

Attempts to resolve these internal conflicts through dialogue have failed, with agreements apparently overturned by higher directives within the party hierarchy.

Focus Shifts to Upcoming Elections

Despite the setbacks, Sifuna and his allies are now concentrating on preparations for the next General Election under the Linda Mwananchi movement. He expressed determination to meet the expectations placed upon them and to move forward without dwelling on recent losses.

"The belief and trust in Linda Mwananchi compel us to focus on organizing for the future," he said.
