Sifuna Pledges Unified Opposition Front Against Ruto in 2027 Polls
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna vows opposition will back a single presidential candidate to challenge President Ruto in 2027, emphasizing national unity.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has affirmed that opposition leaders will rally behind one presidential candidate to confront President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. Speaking during the Linda Mwananchi tour in Trans Nzoia County, Sifuna stressed the importance of avoiding vote fragmentation by presenting a united front.
"The opposition will field one candidate to face President Ruto," Sifuna declared to supporters gathered in Sibanga. He highlighted ongoing efforts to engage leaders from various regions to build an inclusive coalition ahead of the polls.
Addressing the crowd, Sifuna said, "Our Gusii brothers are with us. You people of Western, are you saying we should talk to the Kamba? Should we talk to the people of Mt Kenya? Is there anyone you are saying we should not talk to apart from Kasongo? Let us all walk together in this journey until we meet Kasongo at the ballot."
He underscored that defeating the Kenya Kwanza administration requires unity across political and regional lines. The Linda Mwananchi movement’s tour in Trans Nzoia has attracted large crowds at multiple trading centres, with key opposition figures including Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale joining the campaign.
Sifuna also expressed gratitude to Kenyans who have supported the movement through small public contributions, emphasizing that the campaign is driven by ordinary citizens rather than wealthy backers. "They said we don't have money, but the paybill is bringing in money every day. I want to thank you for the many Sh10 contributions you have sent. We don't need Kasongo's money; we will walk with the power of the citizens," he said.
During the tour, Babu Owino called on Western Kenya residents to support the movement, highlighting its focus on tackling unemployment, the rising cost of living, and corruption. "We have come to liberate the Western region. We want to save you from the shackles of oppression and corruption," Owino said, questioning the government's performance on youth employment and economic empowerment.
The Linda Mwananchi movement is conducting a nationwide mobilisation campaign, holding public forums that address governance, economic challenges, youth unemployment, and the cost of living, while advocating for greater opposition unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
